420

Today is April 20th (420), and I woke up today coughing up green snot. So I decided to not race the road race. It was at the Air Force Academy and was windy as tits out. So I guess it wasn't a big deal that I didn't race. But the one thing that chapped my ass was that the road race course has a 4 or 5 mile climb on the back side, and I most likely would have finished with the pack, and maybe top 5 in the field sprint up the climb to the finish. I guess next year I'll race it.
On the 19th, we had the crit race. The crit was right at Colorado College campus with a cool little descent and little power climb. The little climb was sweet except that I would go from the back of the group to the front on the climb and so that made my crit end faster. I made it Short Track time before I blew and rode with BK Krusher off the back like a 12 year old girl until the front of the group caught us again and we got pulled. It was still a fun race.
Virginia Slim upgraded to A's and dominated in his first A race. He hung in like a champ
in the road race and despite cracking on the last lap, pulled it together and finished it out.

Another note: I have not seen as many people on campus at Boulder as I did today. 420 inspires people to get out I guess. The whole Norlin Quad was full of people. Concert status. Smoke everywhere. It was pretty crazy.

Ride-A-Kick My Ass-A-Thon

So today was the ride-a-thon. And after socializing at Virginia Slims house last night, the 12th, waking up at 8 in the morning was no stroll in the park. It suprises me how I can wake up in the morning to go ride my bike, but on some days I can't wake up to make it to my 9 o'clock class for the life of me.
So after listening and watching Bama headbang and rock out to some metal we started out on our ride. There was about 20 of us or so as we headed out. It was kinda cold but sunny so it wasn't bad. After about 15 minutes or so, Virginia Slim and I decided to pull a massive attack from the back of the pack. We time trialed away from stevie fresh and the rest of the pack, but after about 20 seconds we thought we were gonna die so we let up and Kiel and some other kids passed us. Our attack led to another couple of cat 5 attacks from the group. Quite entertaining for me and V-Slim. We rode north from Boulder, hit Lyons and headed east. And after heading east for a ways we turned north again and headed towards Carter Lake. We rode on a pretty flat long road with a couple of little rollers, which I called sprint points and KOM points and attacked into them. Kiel beat me on the ones that he tried on, but I got the other ones. There was a little 3 switchback climb up to the reservoir and with Kiel not racing up it against me, I took the the KOM climb and got the polkadot jersey, which only existed in my mind. We stopped at the ramp to the reservoir and ate some food and filled our bottles. And the 100 milers kept goin and us 60 ish milers turned around. I really didn't feel like doing 100 miles on no breakfast and 5 hours of sleep. And neither did V-Slim who had a bit of a headache from last night. During our ride, Abby followed us in her "kick ass jeep liberty SPORT" as she calls it, and every once in a while I would go back and hang on the the car and talk to her. It felt like I was in the tour or something hanging back with the team car, but I was in last place in the tour because I was hanging on to the car. When we got back to Boulder, V-Slim, Kiel, Colin, Abby, and I went to Half Fast Subs. It was the best 14 inches I have ever taken. After subs, I ran into Alan Obye and we chatted, then I went back home and showered and then slept. I slept a good 3 hours and I'm still tired as shit!
I went to safeway to get food and I picked up the best food items, Gushers, tortillas, salsa, cheese, oreos, white grape peach juice, kiwis, not ripe pears(because I wasn't paying attention and kinda sleep walking around the store), and some crackers. Food of champions. Came back, ate, and that brings me to this point in time where I stop writing.

It snowed a lot today, so no ride. But, Saturday will bring the Ride-a-thon. So 100 miles then. Should be sweet.

Rollers

The rollers weren't as bad as they could have been. After warming up and spinning for about 15 minutes listening to Destroy the Runner, I wanted to see how fast I could get going. One of the main reasons for my desire to go fast is that this year I am no longer restricted to junior gearing. My bike used to have a 47 tooth big ring. And I ran a 12-25 or something on the back so I would spin out at about 40. It was awesome!! Not. Anyways, I now have a 53 on the front and an 12-25 on the back so I can push 50 mph on a slight downhill with a tailwind. But before I start rambling, back to the rollers. I wanted to see how fast I could get going and with my roommates watching me I hit 50 mph. I felt fast. So after that I began wondering how far I could go with the rest of my hour. So, I switched to the awesome sounds of the 80's. And I turned on Europe and rocked the Super Hits CD. So with the inspiration of Europe I was able to do 30.11 miles in an hour with a average speed of 30.1 mph. I know it's nothing like being on the road because there's no wind resistance on the rollers but I still felt fast.

Why the hell does it snow in april?

So today I was going to go ride my bike outside and enjoy a nice sunny April day on the road. Although, when I woke up, I found myself staring out the window and a flurrying snow storm was staring straight back at me. So I decided today was going to be a roller day. And as much as I love riding rollers, I felt like not riding today.
I don't have a digital camera to take sweet pics of myself riding bicycles, but hopefully I'll be able to get one soon. Until then, use your imagination.
